The next Bible by the Bay, a signature Lehrhaus Judaica event, will take place on Sunday, May 2, from 12:30-5 p.m. at the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto. The cost is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. For more information and to register, click here.
The event features a keynote speech by Professor James Kugel and Bible-related workshops for a variety of interests. Kugel is the director of the Institute for the History of the Hebrew Bible at Bar Ilan University in Israel. From 1982 to 2003 he was Starr Professor of Hebrew Literature at Harvard, where he was voted Harvard’s most popular professor. At Bible by the Bay, he will speak about What Has Biblical Scholarship Done to My Holiday? A New Look at the Jewish Calendar.
Participants will then have the chance to attend two sessions of workshops. The presenters include: Professor James Kugel, Professor Robert C. Gregg, Rabbi Melanie Aron, Professor Steven Weitzman, Professor Vered Shemtov, Adam Berman, Dr. Sarah Shectman, Professor Deena Aranoff, Nechama Tamler and Professor Naomi Janowitz.
Bible by the Bay concludes with a Psalms in a Box: An Interactive Exploration and Musical Performance with Doron Nesher and Ginny Morgan.

The University of California Press and Lehrhaus Judaica congratulate Fred Rosenbaum on winning the 2010 Robert and Anne Cowan Writers’ Award for making an exceptional impact on the Bay Area by writing on Jewish themes.
Fred will speak on his latest book, Cosmopolitans: A Social and Cultural History of the Jews of the Bay Area at Congregation Beth El in Berkeley (Thursday, April 29 at 7 PM) and at the Oshman Family JCC in Palo Alto (Wednesday, May 5 at 7 PM).
