Krasny, Biale On KQED’s “Forum” Feb. 2

Michael Krasny will discuss Jewish secular culture with Prof. David Biale on KQED’s “Forum” on Wednesday, February 2, at 10 a.m. The show can be heard on 88.5 FM in the Bay Area.

KQED’s live call-in program, which is hosted by Krasny, presents wide-ranging discussions of local, state, national and international issues, as well as in-depth interviews.

The program will serve as a preview to Belonging Without Believing: Engaging Secular Jewish Culture at the JCCSF on Sunday, February 6. Click here to register for the conference.

Songs and Poems of Hirsh Glik

On Sunday, January 30, at 2 p.m., hear “Songs and Poems of Hirsh Glik”  read in English and Yiddish by translators Jack Hirschman and Zachary Baker.

The event will take place at the SFSU Labor Archive, 480 Winston Drive, in San Francisco.  This free reading introduces poetry of Vilna ghetto author Glik, who wrote the Partisan Hymn and other songs and poems of Jewish resistance. Reception follows.

Lehrhaus Judaica presents Belonging Without Believing: Engaging Secular Jewish Culture on Sunday, February 6, from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco.

This conference is the first that falls under Lehrhaus 360 — our new umbrella name for one-day conferences that address a topic or a series of topics (i.e. Bible by the Bay) from many angles in a thought provoking, interactive, and fun format.

The conference opens with a keynote conversation with Professor David Biale (on the left), author of Not in the Heavens: The Tradition of Jewish Secular Thought, and KQED “Forum” host Michael Krasny, author of Spiritual Envey: An Agnostic’s Quest.

Krasny (on the right) was recently featured in articles in the San Francisco Chronicle and the j.

Following the keynote conversation, participants will attend a workshop presented by one of the following scholars:  Professor Naomi Seidman (Graduate Theological Union), Professor Moulie Vidas (UC Davis), Professor Chana Kronfeld (UC Berkeley), Professor Steve Zipperstein (Stanford), Rabbi Peretz Wolf-Prusan (Lehrhaus Judaica), Rabbi Judith Seid (Tri-Valley Jewish Community) and Janis Plotkin (Marin Film Festival and former director of the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival).
