This past May, thirty-one travelers participated in Lehrhaus Judaica’s first Rooted in Southern Soil trip. The group explored Jewish life in Charleston, Savannah, and Atlanta. Highlights included Shabbat services at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim, in Charleston, the first Reform congregation in America; an inspirational meeting with Janice Rothschild Blumberg, the widow of Jacob Rothschild, who was the Rabbi of The Temple, in Atlanta, when it was bombed by white supremacists in 1958; and a tour of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic led by the Reverend Albert Brinson, who was a close friend and colleague of Martin Luther King, Jr.
