Yusuf Iqbal

Join us for a special presentation with Rohingyan guest speaker, Yusuf Iqbal, and photojournalist John Rudoff.  Iqbal will offer a brief history of Rohingya and discuss when, how, and why the genocide started. He will discuss the situation currently as well as responses from the international community. As well, he’ll talk about what can be done to help the situation. Rudoff will discuss his personal experiences at the refugee camps through his photography.

Yusuf Iqbal was born in Loilem Shan State, Burma in 1974. He received scholarship to attend IIUM Malaysia and graduated with Bachelor of Management Information System. As a student leader, he organized many activities to gain awareness in Malaysia about Rohingya persecution. In 2005, Yusuf moved to the US. In 2010, he founded America West Trading LLC. Yusuf is not only a businessman but also an active community organizer. He has been a working with new immigrants from Burma since 2009.

He is also a founder and principle of Islamic weekend school where more than 70 students are learning about Islam and Quran for 7 years. Yusuf has been an activist for Human Rights in Burma focusing on Muslim and Rohingya issue. He leads local and national rallies about Rohingya issue. He has founded the organization America for Rohingya to draw attention of public, organizations, and elected officials.
